Wednesday, 12 December 2007 Written by Sharon from United Kingdom - View all my reviews - Top 10 Reviewer First of all, your experience will depend greatly on your departure terminal. Terminal 4 - the international terminal - is huge and has a wide variety of shops. It's very easy to kill a long layover here. But in the local terminals, oftentimes you are left with nothing more than a coffee shop and some hard chairs. I can't recommend the staff at LHR. Being such a huge airport, there is zero accountability. We were abandoned by the British Airways special needs services (One Complete Solution) for two hours while trying to change terminals, moved, then abandoned again. Several people missed flights in this melee. Also, staff often speak to each other in foreign languages, which is disconcerting and makes you feel like they're talking about you! ;-) Immigration is easy to breeze through. I've never had to wait in line and the staff here are always polite. Security lines, however, can be VERY long, and it may take hours to get through during peak travel times. Also, during busy times they are very strict about the number of bags (and the contents of your bag - liquids, laptops, etc). Obviously this is for your own safety and I don't have a problem with that... just don't expect to try to sneak two bags through when you're only allowed one!
